El  FITEI (Festival Internacional de Teatro de Expressão Ibérica)  celebró el año pasado su aniversario 40ª. Este festival nació al término de la dictadura de António de Oliveira Salazar y se ha establecido como uno de los festivales iberoamericanos más antiguos e importantes de Europa. La crisis económica experimentada por la mayoría de los países de la Unión Europea ha afectado la producción de festivales artísticos con sus recursos  reducidos de manera drástica.  Pese a esto, el FITEI ha podido mantenerse y continuar fiel a sus objetivos iniciales. El tema central  elegido fue “comunidad y memoria”. Además de los espectáculos, todos de gran calidad, se ofrecieron talleres, conferencias y paneles a cargo académicos  nacionales e internacionales.

Abstract

The FITEI (International Iberoamerican Theatre Festival) commemorated last year its 40^th Anniversary. It was born after the end of the António de Oliveira Salazar ’dictatorship to become one of the most important Iberoamerican theatre festivals in Europe. The economic crisis experienced lately by many of the European Union countries has affected the production of arts festivals which have seen their resources shrinking dramatically. Nevertheless, the FITEI has managed to keep alive and remain faithful to its foundational objectives. The FITEI 40º was arranged around a central theme “community and memory”. In addition to the outstanding performances displayed, there were many academic activities, such as panel discussions, conferences and workshops coordinated by national and international theatre scholars and theatre practitioners.
