Este es un ensayo acerca del complejo de la rumba, que engloba diversas manifestaciones culturales-artísticas de las más populares y representativas del pueblo de Cuba. Pese a lo mucho que se ha estudiado y escrito en torno a su configuración, aún quedan por dilucidar algunos aspectos tales como: el problema de su categorización; si es correcta su designación como afrocubana; cuáles son sus antecedentes afroides, entre otros, que he intentado esclarecer en aras de guiar al público lector, para su mejor comprensión.

Abstract

This is an essay about the rumba complex, which encompasses various cultural-artistic manifestations of the most popular and representative of the people of Cuba. Despite how much has been studied and written about its configuration, there are still some aspects such as: the problem of its categorization; whether its designation as ‘Afro-Cuban’ is correct; and which are its African roots is, among others, which remain to elucidate; I have tried to clarify them in order to guide the reader for a better understanding.
