La pandemia del Covid-19 revela el estado de las artes escénicas en Quito y las relaciones que éstas, como parte del sector cultural, mantienen con el gobierno. En medio de la precariedad surge el ‘Teatro de la Pandemia’ como una respuesta estético-política desde el aula a la situación que atraviesa el país. A través de este trabajo presentamos una propuesta emergente de las artes escénicas, que ha jugado un rol pedagógico importante y que surge durante la emergencia sanitaria. Hemos utilizado la entrevista en profundidad, concretamente hemos hablado con algunos de los artífices de esta iniciativa para conocer en qué consiste este tipo de teatro, sus objetivos y su relevancia social, entre otras cuestiones.

Covid 19 and the theater of the pandemic: the counter-mask of the theater in Quito

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic reveals the state of the performing arts in Quito and the relationships that these, as part of the cultural sector, maintain with the government. In the midst of precariousness, the 'Theater of the Pandemic' arises, as an aesthetic-political response from the classroom to the situation that the country is going through. Through this work we present an emerging proposal of the performing arts, which has played an important pedagogical role and which arises during the health emergency. We have used the interview in depth, specifically we have spoken with some of the architects of this initiative to find out what this type of theater consists of, its objectives and its social relevance, among other types of issues.
