Entrevista, realizada en julio de 2025, a Santiago Doria: director, actor, dramaturgo y titiritero argentino

Resumen

En esta entrevista con el reconocido director, dramaturgo, titiritero, docente y actor Santiago Doria recorremos la historia, vigencia y valor cultural del sainete criollo argentino, repasando sus orígenes, popularidad y decadencia. Como apasionado del tema, Doria nos ayuda a dilucidar si el género chico -incluyendo al sainete y el grotesco criollos- tuvo injerencia en lo que hoy denominamos el “ser nacional” argentino y la importancia de representar en la actualidad piezas que impidan que caiga en el olvido y permitan su transmisión a las nuevas generaciones.
El disparador de la charla es el estreno de la obra Allá por el Venititangos, escrita junto a Mateo Chiarino y llevada a escena con la Compañía Argentina de Teatro Clásico, grupo teatral fundado en 2017, abocado al Siglo de Oro Español y, ahora, a clásicos de la dramaturgia argentina.

Abstract

In this interview with the renowned director, playwright, puppeteer, teacher, and actor Santiago Doria, we explore the history, relevance, and cultural value of the Argentine sainete criollo, reviewing its origins, popularity, and decline. As a passionate expert on the subject, Doria helps us understand whether the género chico — including the sainete and the grotesco criollo — influenced what we now call the Argentine “national identity,” and the importance of staging these pieces today to prevent them from falling into oblivion and to ensure they are passed down to new generations. The starting point for the conversation is the premiere of AlláporelVeintitangos, written together with Mateo Chiarino and staged with the Compañía Argentina de Teatro Clásico, a theater group founded in 2017, dedicated to the Spanish Golden Age and now also to classics of Argentine playwriting.
