En el presente artículo se pretende dar cuenta de la construcción del indio y el espacio en La Araucana a partir del imaginario católico renacentista de Alonso de Ercilla. En cuanto a la construcción del indio ésta describe una curvatura que va desde un satanismo inicial, pasando por un segundo estadio de infidelidad, hasta la conversión al cristianismo. A su vez el espacio en el poema épico se construye a partir de la cultura renacentista en la cual Ercilla se se inscribe.

from the Alonso de Ercilla’s catholic renaissance imaginary

Abstract

This article intends to reveal the construction of the native and the physical space in La Araucana, from the Alonso de Ercilla’s catholic renaissance imaginary. Regarding the native construction, this shows a curvature that goes from an initial satanism, going through a second stage of unfaithfulness, to culminate finally in the conversion to christianity. At the same time, the epic poem is built upon the renaissance culture in the which the poet is placed.
