La presente reseña aborda el film Dead Man (Jarmusch, 1995), analizando las variables a través de las cuales el relato interpela los ejes principales del western clásico (la tensión civilización-barbarie en el marco de la “conquista del Oeste”, el viaje del héroe, la relación entre el hombre y la naturaleza), para conformar una mirada crítica sobre la identidad, la historia y la actualidad de los vínculos interétnicos en la escena social de los Estados Unidos de América.

Abstract

This review deals with the film Dead Man (Jarmusch, 1995). It analyzes the variables through which the story addresses the main topics of classical westerns (the tension between civilization and barbarism within the context of the “Conquer of the West”, the hero’s journey, the relationship between man and nature), in order to build a critical look on the identity, history, and topicality of interethnic ties in the social scene of the United States of America.
