Éste es un análisis de los personajes arquetípicos y del lenguaje simbólico que emplea Ramón J. Sender en Réquiem por un campesino español (1953), con el objetivo de releer esta obra no sólo como una anécdota rural de injustica social, que ocurrió cerca de Lérida durante la Segunda República española (1931-1939), sino como un tema universal y vigente de injusticia social en la gran mayoría de países hispanos; como resultado del estrecho vínculo que solía existir hasta hace relativamente muy poco tiempo entre el Estado, la clase afluente y la Iglesia católica; del totalitarismo y de la explotación del campesino por parte de los gamonales.

 

The Eloquence of Silence in Requiem for a Spanish Peasant

Abstract

This is an analysis of the archetypal characters and the symbolic language that Ramón J. Sender includes in his Requiem for a Spanish Peasant (1953), while reading this novel not only as a rural anecdote of social injustice that took place near Lérida during the Spanish Second Republic (1931-1939), but interpreting it as a universal and current topic of social injustice in a vast majority of Hispanic countries, resulting from the close ties among the State, the affluent social class, and the Catholic Church up until recently; as well as from totalitarian regimes, and the exploitation of peasantry by big landowners.
