Abstract
A look into the Japanese production of graphic novels targeted to young women (shÅjo) and the influence of Western feminism imported to Japan after World War II. I will discuss how is a representation of the feminine sexuality performance from a gaze that defies the hegemony though three representative products: Princess Knight, The Rose of Versailles and Revolutionary Girl Utena, and how these narratives give way to the cultural space of shÅjo as a feminine subculture dissociated from patriarchal ideas.
