Resumen

Este trabajo analiza historiográficamente cómo se inserta el “Federal Theatre Project”, 1935-1939, dirigido por Hallie Flanagan en el contexto de La Gran Depresión en la década de 1930. Vemos que, a raíz de la situación desesperante de desempleo, hambre y precariedad expandida en toda la nación, se crea la alternativa del modelo microeconómico, el “Works Progress Administration”.  Es el FTP uno de los programas que crea la WPA, para atender la situación desesperante de los artistas de teatro y espectáculos. Las ayudas organizadas por el gobierno de Roosevelt, ni las funciones del WPA y menos aún el FTP, pudieron funcionar sin enfrentar la actitud hostil y agresiva de la oposición política, dentro y fuera del Congreso. Se examinan y contrastan los debates y posturas que generó el extraordinario proyecto teatral.

The "Federal Theater Project", debates and positions of the theatrical feat

Abstract

This work historiographically analyzes how the Federal Theater Project, 1935-1939, directed by Hallie Flanagan, is inserted in the context of The Great Depression in the 1930s. We see that, due to the desperate situation of unemployment, hunger and precariousness spread throughout the nation, the alternative of the microeconomic model is created, the “Works Progress Administration”. FTP is one of the programs created by the WPA, to address the desperate situation of theater and show artists. The aid organized by the Roosevelt government, nor the functions of the WPA and even less the FTP, could function without facing the hostile and aggressive attitude of the political opposition, inside and outside of Congress. The debates and positions that generated the extraordinary theatrical project are examined and contrasted.
