Este ensayo analiza El libro de los susurros —exitosa novela de Varujan Vosganian—, minimizando la analogía que cierta crítica ha establecido entre ésta y el realismo mágico de la literatura hispanoamericana. Frente a ello, basándose en la presencia en Walter Benjamin y en Varujan Vosganian de un similar ideario romántico-anticapitalista, la investigación tiende una red de afinidades entre el filósofo y el artista. Desde esta perspectiva, la novela de Vosganian se revela como un ejemplo contemporáneo de narración pre-moderna en el sentido en que Benjamin describió a ésta, es decir, como una forma de cultura popular, hostil al progreso exclusivamente científico y técnico, y afín a un universo de valores espirituales y éticos, para el que la memoria humana está dotada de una fuerza mesiánico-revolucionaria.

Abstract

This essay analyzes El libro de los susurrus [The Whisper Book] —Varujan Vosganian’s successful novel— minimizing the analogy, created by a certain criticism, between this novel and the magic realism of the Latin American literature. Based on the presence of Walter Benjamin and Varujan Vosganian, with similar romantic anti-capitalist ideology, this investigation deploys a network of affinities between the philosopher and the artist. From this view, Vosganian’s novel is revealed as a contemporary example of pre-modern narrative in the sense Benjamin described it, that is like a way of popular culture, hostile to exclusively technical and scientific progress, and with a kindred spirit to a spiritual and ethical value universe, with the conviction that human memory is empowered by a messianic-revolutionary strength.
