El presente trabajo analiza el modo en que dos autores de procedencia diversas, el argentino Jorge Luis Borges y el inglés Julian Barnes, se apropian del género biográfico para hacer un uso novedoso del mismo. Comenzaré por presentar una breve historia del género y luego trabajaré sobre las aproximaciones a la biografía que son Evaristo Carriego (Borges, 1930) y Flaubert's Parrot (Julian Barnes, 1984). Para concluir revisaré un texto autobiográfico de cada uno de estos autores con el fin de considerar el modo en que el género biográfico entra en conflicto al volverse sobre el propio autor.

Abstract

The present essay analyses the way in which two authors from different cultures, the argentine Jorge Luis Borges and the english Julian Barnes, take over the biographic genre and use it in a new way. I shall begin with a brief history of the genre and then work with Evaristo Carriego (Borges, 1930) y Flaubert's Parrot (Julian Barnes, 1984), two texts that approach the biography. Finally I will review an autobiographic piece of each of these authors in order to consider the way in which the biographic genre develops when its subject is the same as its author.
