Abstract
With “"Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote" (1941), Jorge Luis Borges makes us reflect on the fact that, ever since The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha was published in 1605, as many Quixotes have been re-written as readers this novel has had. Consequently, Borges’ thoughts were ahead of the time the reception theory—that emphasizes the role of the reader in the production of meaning—became popular and revolutionized literary theory.
