Resumen

En este trabajo analizo la novela corta Salón de Belleza (1994) del autor mexicano-peruano Mario Bellatín a partir de las representaciones del cuerpo en su relación con la enfermedad y el poder. Los discursos biopolíticos en torno a los cuerpos enfermos se configuran tanto desde una resistencia como una reproducción. Se observa cómo la idea de enfermedad, cuerpo, belleza, comunidad y animalidad confluyen en esta obra desde la política y la estética, difiriendo completamente en cuerpos enfermos y sanos. El trabajo está dividido en tres ejes: «Belleza y muerte», «Enfermedad y comunidad» y «Animalidad y monstruosidad», las cuales se piensan en diálogo.

Abstract

In this article I analyze the nouvelle Salón de Belleza (1994) by Mexican - Peruvian author Mario Bellatín through the representations of the body in its relationship with disease and power. Biopolitical speeches around sick bodies are displayed from a form of resistance as well as a reproduction of them. We will observe how the idea of disease, the body, beauty, community and animality come together in this work from a political and aesthetics perspective, deferring completely diseased and healthy bodies. The article is divided in three sections: «Beauty and death», «Disease and community» and «Animality and monstrosity», which are stated in dialogue with one another.
