Aunque la presencia de la literatura de la Revolución mexicana en el cine ha sido notoria desde la primera mitad del siglo XX hasta la actualidad, la gran mayoría de las numerosas películas basadas en textos narrativos y obras teatrales ha presentado una visión masculina de ese conflicto y sus secuelas. Curiosamente, no ha sido hasta muy recientemente, con la aparición de varias películas basadas en obras literarias de autoras mexicanas, que se empieza a observar una representación femenina de la revolución en el cine mexicano. Aquí examinamos la visión masculina en el cine de la revolución basado en textos literarios para contrastarla con la que encontramos en películas recientes basadas en textos de tres autoras: Laura Esquivel, Sabina Berman y Angeles Mastretta.
Abstract
Although the literature of the Mexican Revolution has had a strong presence in Mexican cinema from the first half of the 20th century to the present, the majority of the numerous films based on novels and plays have presented a masculine vision of that conflict and its aftermath. Curiously, it has only been very recently, with the appearance of several films based on literary works by female writers, that we begin to observe a feminine representation of the revolution in Mexican cinema. Here we examine the masculine vision found in films of the Mexican Revolution based on literary texts and contrast it with that found in recent films based on texts by three female authors: Laura Esquivel, Sabina Berman, and Angeles Mastretta.
